Summary
Admiral Alfred von Tirpitz was the architect of Imperial Germany's naval expansion before World War I. This book examines his role in transforming the German Navy from a coastal defense force into a formidable fleet that challenged British naval supremacy. Kelly analyzes Tirpitz's strategic vision, his political maneuvering to secure funding for the naval buildup, and how his policies contributed to the Anglo-German naval arms race. The work explores the broader implications of Tirpitz's naval program for German foreign policy and its ultimate impact on the outbreak of World War I.
