At 0830 hours, just as briefed by the intelligence Officer, FLAK began. The smooth ride for the formation ceased, as FLAK bursts stayed above and not below the bombers, as the white hot shrapnel bursts would explode upwards, to rip through the thin aluminum skin off the warplanes. Combat mission number 36 would be soon be half over. "What will happen next?" thought Lt. Tyre... The "Widow Maker" is a true story about a young couple (Eddie & Shirley) who fall in love at the outset of World War II. It is a story about the greatest generation that unselfishly went to war against a threat to Democracy. The Widow Maker gives the reader a special lesson in the history of World War II written from the perspective of Eddie Tyre, a young Army Air Corps aviator who completes 50 combat missions in the European Theatre. The book gives a personal look into the lives of the couple who send love letters to each other and cope with a world shaken by war.
